I received a ton of ideas on how to feed Aaron after the last post on FB. Thank you.
Aaron is really swimming a ton these days, two hours every morning, followed by tennis lessons, and two swim meets a week. Just now as he ran by I was taken with just how thin his legs have become in just the first week of summer. He is back in a smaller bathing suit after actually moving up a size.
I Googled our local world famous Children’s Hospital. They have a new pediatric sports medicine and performance center!!! I called them and usually they have a four month waiting list to see a nutritionist, but they magically have an opening on Thursday afternoon. They provide a list of why someone would need sport nutrition counseling. I think we completely fall under the category of , “All other medical conditions for which athletes may require nutrition counseling”.
I don’t see this love affair Aaron has with swimming ending anytime too soon since he has been swimming competitively for three years and he is just shy of seven years old. This is going to be an issues we will have to deal with as long as he is an food allergic athlete so I better start getting info about it now. I will report back…promise.
It’s a relief to live in Philly sometimes.

I read this post and your last one. Glad to see you’re getting an appointment with a nutritionist. They do make a lot of dairy free protein powders and shakes–there are a lot of dairy free protein bars too.

Good luck! My boys eat a ridiculous amount of fruit in the summer too but not quite that much!
was hesitant to post since I am a lurker but my initial thought is that he needs more carbs to fill him up. Fruit is broken down and digested quickly. Maybe fried rice with lots of veggies, or add turkey taco meat, corn, salsa and avocado to the rice and beans. If he’ll eat it, avocado is a great source of healthy fat. Just mash with lime juice, salt and pepper. My boys love roasted baby potatoes, toss witj olive oil, salt and pepper then roast. Can be dipped in ketchup or whatever. I forget if he can tolerate gluten but whole wheat toast with almond butter (he can eat that now right?) could be a good addition to breakfast.
