Today I decided that it was time to start getting Ryan’s services in order for the fall. I do not in any way want a replay of last school year which was something akin to the seventh layer of hell for Ryan and for all of us. I wanted to make sure I have everything in place when school starts because I am in no way dealing with the mess of last year. What I want is pretty simple. I want homework accommodation. I don’t want Ryan doing four hours of homework a night. Period. By law they give him extra time on tests, he needs to have extra time on the homework. I also want him to have OT in school. The OT last year told me that since Ryan’s hands did not have an issue they would not give him OT in school. This summer we have been seeing an OT at CHOP. She gave me a full eval she did that proves Ryan has muscle weakness as well as other issues in his hands. He is having issues with number and letter reversals and his handwriting is incredibly illegible.
I am following the leads and want to have at least part time TSS in school for Ryan to start. I know TSS is not something he will need forever but it will be good for him to start school with the TSS and set standards of behavior. Of course he will continue to have behavioral therapy in school with the same person we have been seeing since last summer.
I found out that school really does not start here in Philly till September 10th which puts us in school very late into June. Why can’t it stay July forever.
