The fearsome twosome FINALLY went to school. It was, of course, a tough morning. So tired because I worked last night. I had the forethought to lay out the boys uniforms and stuff
yesterday so I could utter monosyllabic grunts at everyone in my house and go on auto pilot. We embarked on the walk to school. It was a little like herding cats, but that was to be expected. I did get them to take a picture without pulling each others hair.
They looked so sweet and innocent in their uniform shirts and shorts. We walked the usual very pretty walk to school and suddenly Aaron got very serious. He has never ever been the kid to be afraid of new situations. When he was three and I took him to preschool for the first time I asked him if I could stay and take pictures. He replied. No, leave now!! I was not sure what was up with him until I took the below picture. The kid was nervous. I wasn’t sure what to do with him. I had
an anxiety ridden kid at home at times but never a kid nervous about a new situation. Ryan is the type to plow into a new thing then freak out at the transition because his brain keeps him from mentally preparing for the change. Ryan happily hammed for the camera. Aaron gripped my hand all the way to school. The school sends the kids to their old class first. This helped Aaron who immediately went over and hugged his kindergarten teacher. I am sure he is going to be fine.
Then I went to the nurse. The old nurse retired. I LOVED the new nurse immediately. She took all of the boys medical needs info. She asked me if I had this paper and that paper. I had everything. I was the first parent she interacted with at our school and she kept repeating of I love you already. We talked about the various drugs the boys have to have in school. I have some paperwork to fill out but all is well. The best thing she said to me was, we are going to have a lunch table for your son this year, after I told her how Aaron sat alone most of last year. She immediately brightened my day since last year I was fighting the lunch ladies and their union about Aaron’s presence in the lunch room. She said she had been through food allergies before and she wanted him to be included no matter what. WOW.

Good start. I cannot imagine why your district starts on a Friday. Good luck with Ryan’s transition.
