Punky Mama

Ohhhhhhh It is Thursday.

I love going to work on Thursday night.  Love it Love it.  Look forward to it like a teenager looks forward to a school dance.

I walk in and I am greeted by my old friend G who is in for his two after work drinks before he goes home.  G usually says, hello Jo-Ann welcome to Adult Thursday. He is the person who decompresses me from my Momland to Dive Bar Land. He asks about the boys and usually he is one of the people I can let it all out on and move on.  Usually for the rest of the night I tell people I don’t want to talk about the details of what is going on with the kids. I will share some stuff but Thursday is my time and it is not a time to talk about them the whole night. I tell people you want to know read my blog, it is all there.

I love my regular customers and look forward to my time with them on Thursday. I get to hear stories of  job hunting and how it is going, to evening soccer practice, to tales of dysfunctional relationships, or new love, to one night stands. I love getting out in the world and hearing those stories, escaping my reality for a while and share in somebody elses story. Sometimes the chat in the bar gets raunchy, other times serious, but always interesting.   I wait for my regulars to come and check in missing them, when they don’t come out.

My co-worker is a young engaged woman who used to be a model and still looks like one, except she is one of the sweetest most down to earth people I have ever met. We have a young gay dude as our waiter and he buys right into our dance night shenanigans being  a good sport all the time. Our doorman is someone I used to serve years ago who has I have worked with forever.  We have worked hard to make Thursday night fun for us and our customers. It has morphed into cheesy dance night.

We pour over the songs on the infinite internet jukebox early and by 10 or 11pm it is on with us dancing and singing and the customers bopping in their chairs. Customers play songs and we try and figure out who played what song. Before I know it all my favorite customers have come and gone and my partner and I are cleaning up.  We leave each other in the deep dark on the city street at 3am.  On the way home I start thinking toward the next week already.

So tell my your favorite cheesy dance songs. Anything from cheesy metal to cheesy pop will due!  Will get you all in on Dance Night Thursday!
