What a storm.  The wind whipped all night here. There are trees down and leaves everywhere but we were spared. Our lights stayed on, and we still had cable and Internet throughout the whole event.  Today again my husband is working from home.  The highways are passable but there are issues with the secondary roads with downed trees and wires.  Half my husbands commute is on the secondary roads.  I am glad he had enough sense to stay here.

I was in touch with my Mom on Long Island this morning.  She had power and was fine. She is on the northeastern part of the island, which was spared, compared to the south shore. I texted my sister on the south shore. She has a tree on her house! Locally there was serious flooding within a few blocks of where she lives.  Luckily she moved her cars to a safe place before the storm knowing the neighbor’s tree was so big and old. She is without power, phone, and water. She is going to my Mom’s house this evening after they get the tree off the house.  For some reason the only texts my sister was receiving were from me, so from Philly I connected my Mom and sister.  My sister will have a place to go with her family and I put my Mom’s mind at ease about what happened to my sister and her family.

Compared to what is going on out there we are lucky.  I read of Facebook a post from someone in Philly asking if  we had a semi permeable dome over the city because it just wasn’t as bad as it could be.  Philly has always been like that for me.  During the housing bubble house prices rose but they did not go as high as they could have gone.  When the bubble burst people struggled but far fewer lost their homes to foreclosures compared to the rest of the country.  No matter what was going on in politics or economically I have had employment and I have been able to pay my bills.  We have had rough patches.  Once my husband was out of work for almost a year and a half but we made it through.  This morning I am glad I am in Philly.  It never gets insanely great here but it also never gets too bad.
