Snow Dud

This winter for Philadelphia has been a complete snow dud. If you have to live in a place that has winter the chance of having a day off in the middle of the week is what makes winter bearable.  The kids start getting excited around Christmas.  We make sure we have snow pants and boots. Then you wait. Every week the kids would say is it going to snow?  We would check the weather forecasts. Snow is coming the kids would exclaim.  Please let it be enough to cancel school and sled.  Even my husband would get excited for snow and would say if it looked bad he would leave work early with a twinkle in his eye.

This winter it snowed but never more than an inch or two and most times it was never enough to sled. Once it was about five or six slushy inches but quickly it melted and the snow was so wet the kids came in soaked to the bone and freezing. it came over winter break which didn’t cancel anything.  All of us had our hopes set on yesterday’s teaser snow.  I know I was hoping that swim team was canceled since I am about ready for the upcoming 6 week swim team break but no.  I know my husband was wishing for a day working from home and hanging out with the kids.  Never in my knowledge has a kid been sad about a snow day.

This morning everyone woke up and exclaimed did it snow??  Not one flake.  To say the mood was dour this morning was an understatement. This morning my husband asked not about spring but when we might have the chance of another snow day.  I said with only a few weeks to spring you are looking at about nine months. He sighed, and off he went on his long commute to work

  1. I’m sorry you are having a sucky winter. We’ve about had enough of the snow here and can’t wait for it to be gone. But Liam hasn’t had a single day of school cancelled for snow. His private school just keeps on truckin’ even when all the public schools are cancelled. We have to make sure he doesn’t hear the news in the morning when they announce “all schools in Halifax are closed”!

  2. omg, they cancel school here if they see one flake flying, i swear. i lived in montana for twelve years, there wasn’t a single snow day the entire time i lived there, montana kids have no concept of what a snow day is. i have no clue why it is so damn hard to get kids to school in michigan on snowy days while it seems that montana has zero problem with it, and it’s not like there’s a lack of snow in montana.
