The past and future collide

This morning at 9am I was meeting one of my oldest friends in a Target parking lot.  She is the owner of the Satellite Cafe in West Philly.  I love that she owns a cafe because she has worked in coffee since the 80′s and regularly dreamed of owning an cafe. She is one of the sponsors of Listen to Your Mother Philly.  It’s not often you can call on someone who you shared a tattoo with over 20 years ago who will still come through when you need them.  She is also the person who got me the job at the bar.  As we chatted in the parking lot a mini van pulled up.  Who gets out of the mini van is someone we both worked with back in the day of the early 90′s.  He had two of his three kids with him.  It was a regular party people reunion in the parking lot of the Target. Didn’t we used to go to bed at that time in the past?

I think back and I remember getting on the “internet” for the first time while visiting my friend who owns the cafe in Iowa City.  I was instantly mesmerized.  Hmmmmm foreshadowing.

I then drove to Cecily’s house for a meeting with her and Dresden, for Listen to Your Mother Philly.  Someone has to hire the three of us as a team because we can get more done together in two hours than some people get done in a week.  I have found it inspiring and intimidating to work with these amazingly talented busy women.   Cecily and her husband Charlie and I have also known each other from so long ago.  Dresden I am only getting to know but is a person who feels like you have known her forever.  We did a rough read through of all the pieces of our show.  WOW.  There were tears, giggles, and wow’s.  Each piece is so amazing alone but as a group I feel this will be a very powerful event.  Tomorrow is our rehearsal.  I can’t wait.

Saturday denial

I have given up freaking out about school this weekend.  I can put on my gladiator hat on Monday to fight them.  I took off from the bar this weekend because the tough week that included Aaron and the food challenge and Ryan and the homework fiasco, left me raw.  Bartending is hard when you feel raw. Instead I decided to get a jump on my other work projects for next week.

Getting my real work out of the way leaves me free to fight at school and do some of the things I’d like to get done to really give the Listen To Your Mother show polish.  I have organized large events before but I have not help organize something around writers.  Most of the events I have been involved with have has something to do with loud guitars and amps.  In many ways this is the same, in others it is different.  I find it infinitely interesting, I love events bringing an event to life.

This afternoon Elliott had the boys outside playing with neighbors.  I sat on the deck and banged out half of my work project.  Tomorrow I should finish it.  I refuse to let the school bring me down on my weekend. I will not give them that power.
